Regular maintenance keeps a CNC machine accurate, extends its life and protects resale value. Use this simple checklist.
Daily
- Clean chips and dust from the table, rails and ball screws.
- Check coolant level and condition.
- Listen for unusual spindle or motor noise.
- Wipe and lightly oil exposed guideways.
Weekly
- Lubricate ball screws and linear rails per the manual.
- Inspect belts and couplings for wear or slack.
- Clean the controller cabinet filters, dust causes overheating.
- Back up your controller settings and programs.
Monthly
- Check axis backlash and re-calibrate if needed.
- Inspect spindle bearings and collets.
- Tighten fasteners and check for coolant leaks.
- Service the stabiliser/UPS, voltage spikes are a common cause of controller failure in Pakistan.
Power protection matters
Unstable mains and load-shedding are hard on CNC electronics. A good voltage stabiliser and clean earthing prevent costly controller and drive failures. If you run a generator, make sure it is sized correctly and gives a stable output.
