Pressure units in practice
Workshop gauges in Pakistan are usually marked in bar and kg/cm², which are almost the same size, while American air tools and tyres use psi. Hydraulic presses and material strengths are rated in MPa.
Gauges normally read gauge pressure, the pressure above the surrounding air. Absolute pressure adds about 1.013 bar of atmospheric pressure on top.

Frequently asked questions
How many psi are in one bar?
One bar is about 14.5038 psi. One psi is about 0.0689 bar.
Is kg/cm² the same as bar?
Very nearly. 1 kg/cm² is 0.980665 bar, about 2 percent less, so the two are often used interchangeably on gauges.
What is atmospheric pressure in bar?
Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is 1.01325 bar, 101.325 kPa or 14.696 psi.
What is the difference between mmHg and torr?
They are almost identical. 1 torr is exactly 1/760 of an atmosphere, and 1 mmHg is about 1.00000014 torr.
