How this is calculated
- 1
CIF value in PKR
The FOB price plus sea freight and insurance, converted at the exchange rate. If you leave insurance blank, customs' default of 1% of FOB is used.
- 2
Assessable value
Customs adds 1% landing charges to the CIF value. Duties are charged on this assessable value.
- 3
Customs, additional and regulatory duty
Most industrial machinery attracts a low customs duty, often 0 to 5 percent, but the exact rate depends on the PCT code of your machine. Regulatory duty applies to only a few items.
- 4
Sales tax and income tax
Sales tax (18%) is charged on the duty-paid value, plus 3% value-addition tax if you import to resell. Advance income tax is charged on the duty and tax paid value, at a higher rate for non-filers.
- 5
Clearance and transport
A buffer for the clearing agent, port and terminal charges, container handling and transport to your factory, as a percentage of CIF.
Frequently asked questions
What is the customs duty on CNC machines in Pakistan?
It depends on the PCT code. Many CNC machine tools fall under chapter 84 with customs duty between 0 and 5 percent, while some items and parts carry more. Rates change with each federal budget, so confirm the current rate for your code with a clearing agent.
Does being a filer change the cost?
Yes. Non-filers pay double the advance income tax at import. Being on the Active Taxpayers List also lets you adjust this tax against your final income tax.
Which exchange rate is used?
The calculator loads a recent market rate when it can. Customs uses the State Bank's rate on the day your goods declaration is filed, so update the field when you are ready to import.
Is this the final amount I will pay?
No. It is an estimate for planning. Demurrage, inspection, LC bank charges and installation are not included. Your clearing agent will give the exact assessment.
